| PAKISTAN NEEDS RULE OF LAW Pakistan is ruled by an alliance of various elites under the leadership of the most powerful clique which include special political, religious, judicial, economic and military interests. These interests use every resource of the state for their own welfare and for furthering their rule, and thus have deprived the people of Pakistan from their fundamental rights ensured in the Constitution. They are like an abandoned nation.
But after a suffering of sixty years, there is silver lining in the form of lawyers’ struggle for an inviolable constitution, rule of law and an independent judiciary. In this decisive battle for the rule of law and independent judiciary, the onus is on the shoulders of honorable judges. The fate of this battle and the fate of Pakistan also will be determined by their integrity. Whether they stick to the Constitution and its Spirit is important to decide this battle. But, if they don’t, there will be widespread discontent. That is why this battle is decisive. This is decisive also because the most learned section of our society cannot stop short of what they have stood for now, i.e. rule of law, not the rule of anything else. | |
